The Y community is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative person to join our team as a personal trainer. This is an exciting time to join our growing organization serving in healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.


Under the supervision of the Personal Training Coordinator, the Personal Trainer will assist with motivating and educating our fitness members at the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA.

Skills and requirements of a personal trainer consist of:

  1. Design safe and effective 30 minute to 1-hour personal training programs for individual clients, adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities
  2. Instruct members in the strength training principles, training procedures, and exercise techniques
  3. Inform members of new information regarding strength training safety and effectiveness
  4. Provide individual supervision and reinforcement during members’ training sessions
  5. Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills when dealing with clients, program participants and staff.
  6. Attend scheduled Personal Trainer staff meetings and attend continuing education courses to stay current on fitness concepts and ideas
  7. Help maintain a neat, clean, and pleasant environment on the fitness floor


  1. Minimum 18 years of age
  2. Experience in fitness instruction required. Nationally recognized Personal Training certification required to train such as ACSM, NASM, ACE, NSCA
  3. Bachelor’s degree in health and wellness field preferred, but not required
  4. Interpersonal communication skills required
  5. Ability to work with youth and adults from beginner to advanced levels of fitness experience
  6. Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, push, squat, sit, crouch, walk, kneel, twist, pull, reach with hands, sit, or stand for an extended period.
  • Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and well-being of members.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

Time Commitment: Flexible full-time and part-time- Hours will require days, nights, and weekends

Compensation Type: Hourly
