Women’s History Month: Clare Richards

March is Women’s History Month, a time to look back at the trailblazers who changed the world. But at the YMCA, we also want to look right here in our own backyard.

Our community is filled with incredible women leading the way today. This week, we are shining a spotlight on Clare Richards, the CEO and co-founder of Impacks in Waite Park, MN.

Rooted in Social Impact

Clare isn’t just running a tech-powered business; she’s solving a real problem for families. Impacks simplifies back-to-school shopping while making supplies more accessible for everyone.

Since its start, Impacks has grown into a national company. Most impressively, they have helped funnel over $200,000 in donations directly to classrooms in need!

Inspired by Icons and Family

When it comes to leadership, Clare draws inspiration from two women. Historically, she looks to Lucille Ball for her fearlessness and creative risk-taking in a tough industry.

Personally, Clare credits her mom. Watching her mother homeschool five kids while leading a nonprofit taught Clare the “service-first” mindset she uses today.

The Strength of the St. Cloud Area Community

Clare loves the close-knit nature of Greater St. Cloud. In our town, you don’t need a massive platform to make a difference; you just need a committed group of people.

She’s seen this firsthand, not just with Impacks, but by co-founding Rotaract a decade ago. It’s all about building relationships that help the community’s trajectory.

Recharging at the YMCA

Even CEOs need a break! When Clare needs to reset, she heads to the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA for a workout class.

She loves letting someone else take the lead for a change. You might spot her in a Group Cycle, Barre, or Strength class, finding the energy she needs to keep growing her business.

Clare’s Advice for Future Leaders

Clare’s best piece of advice for other women is simple: “Show up.” Even if you feel underqualified, consistency is what builds momentum.

“You don’t have to have it all figured out to take the next step,” Clare says. “You just have to have the grit to keep showing up.”
