We are thrilled to celebrate two exceptional students from Sauk Rapids-Rice High School who recently brought home 1st place at the National DECA Competition in Orlando, Florida! Siblings Alexa and Nathan Welsh competed against more than 200,000 competitors from across the globe and emerged as national champions.

After earning 2nd place at the state level, Alexa, a graduating senior, and Nathan, a rising sophomore, advanced to the national stage where they presented an innovative project centered on the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA. Their work explored how artificial intelligence (AI) can help provide data and analytics to better serve the YMCA community.

They chose the YMCA for their project because of the impact it has on local families, offering a welcoming space to connect, grow, and thrive together. They also recognized the YMCA’s broader role in strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Their thoughtful approach and passion stood out to the judges and earned them the top spot in the nation. When reflecting on the experience, both Alexa and Nathan said, “We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We’ve learned so much and wouldn’t change a thing.”

Alexa plans to attend St. Cloud State University this fall to pursue a degree in business. Nathan, entering his sophomore year of high school, has big aspirations of attending college and one day starting his own business.

Please join us in congratulating Alexa and Nathan Welsh on their outstanding achievement and for proudly representing our YMCA and community on the national stage!
