Youth in Government
Minnesota YMCA Youth in Government (YIG) is a youth development program emphasizing the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. All are welcome and financial assistance is available.
Minnesota YMCA Youth in Government is a student-led, experiential learning opportunity that involves 2,500 middle-school and high school students each year. It is a nation-wide program, active in nearly 40 states. Across the country almost 25,000 students attend state Youth in Government conferences each year, with 3,300 adult volunteers and YMCA staff serving as advisors.
We are currently accepting registration for Model United Nations which takes place April 5-7, 2018 in Minneapolis. Model United Nations allows students to practice using skills like compromise and diplomacy to solve pressing global issues in a working role-playing replica of the United Nations. As students simulate various organizations that help run a country, they find new answers to tough questions, respect and acknowledge other perspectives, and problem solve to achieve peaceful change.
